With a 3:30pm arrival time and in between a series of wet days, it seemed an optimum time to seek out what species might be at hand on the Bell View Trail. A few of the usual suspects had made appearances such as the Cactus Wren, Greater Roadrunner and both the Golden-crowned and Rufous-crowned Sparrows. The one unsuspecting species that called out from within the canyon east of the water tower was a Mountain Quail. With the hillsides overgrown with plant life, it was virtually impossible to locate the quail however a sound recording was made. In the sound file within the link below, listen for the “ow!” sound – there are several within the clip.
