An early afternoon visit to Blue Jay Campground off Ortega Highway turned up a last minute sighting of the Townsend’s x Hermit Warbler before my departure at 4pm.
I caught two foraging atop of a pine tree at this GPS location: 33.6548, -117.4486. In this same location were two Lazuli Buntings.

This is a Townsend’s X Hermit Warbler hybrid. A pure Hermit Warbler would lack the black in the auriculars and the black streaks on the sidescand flanks.

I agree – thank you Tom Benson. Good call.
