This Olive-backed Pipit is the 4th sighting recorded in all of North America. According to the book entitled “Rare Birds of North America” by Howell, Lewington and Russell, this bird has only been recorded 3 times prior: 2 spring sightings and 1 fall sighting. This was a Code 3.
The sighting on November 1, 2014 was originally found by Jeff Bray and witnessed by over 50 other birders on day 1. The bird was not initially seen on November 2 but eventually made a reapparance later in the morning according to the Yahoo List Server on November 2, 2014. Initial confirmations were by Doug Willick and Thomas-Ford Hutchinson.
