(Photos included in this post)…On Friday, August 22, 2014 I had initially opted to visit the Newport Back Bay area and after a half hour of minimal bird activity my instincts led me to the nearby San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary where I had met up with other birders from our local region. A four hour visit turned up pleasing results including a handful of Red-Necked Phalaropes, a very brief in flight visit by a Least Bittern and two Ring-necked Ducks off Pond #1.
