*New – added Marsh Wren to the Photo Gallery July 9, 2014

The most elusive Marsh Wren has now been added to the photo gallery. See the Bird Photo Galleries link in the upper menu or simply double click inside this post and find the link HERE

Photo note:  this species is next to impossible to locate.  There have been times whereby here in southern California especially at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine, I’d heard their calls at two different locations Ponds 3 and 4 but two hours proved to be fruitless.  I was able to record their Song/Call and have uploaded them to Xeno-Canto.  They can be heard here Marsh Wren Call 1 and here Marsh Wren Call 2.

Harsh lighting, shadows, size of the bird and the density of their habitat made this one difficult task.  Out of patience and and determination I was able to nab several photos in June 2014 at Oso Flaco Lake in central California.  This photo section clearly shows the bird in proper light, various angles and offers good visibility into its ID markings.
