Wandering Tattler found 8-20-2015 in Oceanside, CA / Photos

A visit to the San Luis River mouth in Oceanside, CA presented good views of a Wandering Tattler.  Finding the species was not immediate and after about 90 minutes the Wandering Tattler was located behind the Oceanside marina suites waterfront hotel at this GPS location:  33.2088, -117.3974.  We parked at Joe’s Crab Shack and walked north, around the perimeter of the marina eventually ending in a south-westerly location.

A few notable observations were made over the course of 30 minutes which were its typical bobbing motion while walking over the rocky coastline and low flying pattern.  Another observation was its foraging habits which were to remain in one immediate area for 3-5 minutes then fly across the channel to the other side of the jetty in search of crustaceans there.  This Wandering Tattler then returned to the previous location in search of food again repeating this habit in only two locations.
