A visit to the southern most edge of San Clemente (Christianitos exit) leads you to a trail known as the “Pahne Trail”.\u00a0 This trail then becomes the “Beach Trail” as shown on Google Maps which dead ends at the infamous surf haven, “The Trestles”.\u00a0 Though technically it is at the outer most edge of San Diego County, you can literally have one foot in San Diego County and one in Orange County.\u00a0 It’s roughly a 3 mile round trip hike that has presented excellent birding opportunities.\u00a0 As you walk the dirt path to the beach be sure and taken any narrow trails into the creek area to explore all possible opportunities.\u00a0 A wide variety of plant and tree life exists here (watch out for the Poison Oak\u00a0 and remember: if leaves of 3, let it be) as well as wild radish.\u00a0 Side tip:\u00a0 some still refer to this area as the ‘San Clemente Estuary”.<\/p>\n
