*New – added Willow Flycatcher to the Photo Gallery on June 2, 2015

The Willow Flycatcher is typically a May arrival here in Orange County. It’s a tricky Flycatcher (Empid) to ID when comparing with other similar Flycatchers such as the Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Gray Flycatcher, Dusky Flycatcher, (the rare) Least Flycatcher and Western-Wood Pewee. A key ID point is the indistinct eye ring as compared to the other Flycatchers mentioned in the previous line (except the Pewee) and its distinct call which can be heard here: Willow Flycatcher call (courtesy of Richard E.
